Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and the in-between weeks — point cost and crowd analysis across Disney's holiday season.
Disney's holiday season runs roughly November 1 through January 6 (Three Kings Day). Point costs vary dramatically within this window — Thanksgiving week, Christmas week, and New Year's week are Premier Season; the weeks between are typically Magic or Dream Season. Crowds follow a similar curve.
Thanksgiving week (Sunday before through Sunday after) sits at Magic or Premier Season depending on resort. Crowds are heavy Thursday-Sunday. The pre-Thanksgiving days (Sunday-Wednesday) are noticeably calmer than Christmas week with comparable holiday decor. Many DVC families prefer Thanksgiving over Christmas for the better crowd-to-cost ratio.
December 1–19 is one of the best DVC values of the year. Holiday decor is fully installed, parties run several nights per week, crowds are moderate, and point costs sit in Choice or Dream Season ranges. Studios book 12–16 points/night at most resorts. This is the sweet spot for members who want the holiday experience without the holiday-week premium.
Premier Season peak. Highest crowds of the year. Highest point costs of the year. Magic Kingdom regularly hits capacity. Worth it for the full immersion (snow on Main Street, holiday parade, fireworks), but only if you've planned 11 months ahead with home-resort priority and aggressive point banking.
New Year's Eve is the single most expensive night to book in the entire DVC system. Crowds rival or exceed Christmas Day. The fireworks show at Magic Kingdom on NYE is spectacular — and you'll see it from a sea of people. Best for members who specifically want this experience; otherwise the week after (Jan 4–10) offers similar decor at half the points.
January 4–22 is DVC's hidden value period. Holiday decor remains up through January 6, crowds are among the lowest of the year, and point costs drop into Adventure Season at most resorts. Studios can run 8–12 points/night. Members who want a "January reset" trip get full Disney experience at minimum cost.
Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks: home-resort 11-month booking, period. Early December: 11-month for popular resorts, 7-month works for value resorts. NYE: home-resort only. Early January: easily booked at 7 months even for premium resorts. Plan around these windows rather than treating the whole holiday season the same way.
