Point transfers move points between memberships once per use year. Here's how transfers work, what you can and can't do, and common pitfalls.
Each membership can either send OR receive a point transfer once per use year — not both, and not multiple transfers. This is the most important transfer rule. Plan carefully: if you transfer 50 points into your account in January, you cannot transfer any more in or out until your next use year begins.
Transferred points keep the use year and expiration date of the receiving membership. However, transferred points cannot be banked. They must be used during the use year they land in. This is the biggest practical limitation — you can't "stockpile" transferred points the way you can your own.
Both members call DVC Member Services and confirm the transfer details: point quantity, sending member number, receiving member number, and use year. Disney processes the transfer in 24–48 hours. There is no fee, but informal compensation between friends or family members is common and ranges from $15–$20 per point depending on relationship and timing.
Transferred points retain the home resort booking priority of the sending membership. If a friend transfers Polynesian points to you, those points book Polynesian at 11 months — but only for that specific contract's home resort. They book other DVC resorts at the standard 7-month window. This is rarely a practical issue unless you specifically planned a transfer to game home-resort priority.
Common use cases: a family member with extra banked points who can't travel that year transfers them to you for a bigger trip; siblings split a single rental purchase by transferring half; parents help adult children fund a Disney honeymoon. Transfers between strangers carry no Disney-side protection — if disputes arise, Disney won't intervene. Stick to known contacts or use a reputable rental service instead.
For most non-family transactions, renting through David's Vacation Club Rentals or DVC Rental Store is safer. The rental service holds the reservation in their name until your trip, providing dispute protection. Transfers move actual points and trust between the parties involved. Use transfers when both members know each other and trust is established.
