Moonlight Magic Events: How DVC's Best Perk Works

After-hours park access for DVC members only — Moonlight Magic events, how to book, and which events are worth chasing.

What Moonlight Magic Is

Moonlight Magic is a series of after-hours park events exclusively for DVC members and their guests. Parks stay open 3 hours past closing with reduced crowds, complimentary snacks and drinks, dance parties, character meet-and-greets, and shortened attraction lines. The events are free for eligible members.

Eligibility and Registration

Moonlight Magic is part of Membership Extras — direct purchase from Disney (currently 150 points) required. Each event allows the member plus a set number of guests (typically 4-7 depending on event). Registration opens about 60 days before each event and fills within minutes. Multiple member households can coordinate to expand guest counts.

WDW Park Events

WDW hosts Moonlight Magic at all four parks on rotating select nights through the year. Magic Kingdom and Epcot events are most popular and fill fastest. Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom events have somewhat easier registration. Each park's event has slightly different programming — Magic Kingdom features fireworks viewing, Epcot offers World Showcase food sampling, Animal Kingdom adds nighttime animal encounters.

Disneyland and Aulani Events

Disneyland hosts Moonlight Magic 2-3 times per year. Aulani occasionally hosts beach evening events. These West Coast events are less frequent but draw extremely passionate members — registration is highly competitive.

Strategy for Booking

Set calendar reminders for registration days. Be logged in to the DVC member site by the exact registration open time. Have a clear plan: which event, how many guests, backup options. Multiple family members on different memberships can each register, expanding the total guest count if needed.

What to Bring

Comfortable shoes (3 hours of late-night walking), light layers (Florida nights cool), and an empty stomach. Complimentary food and drinks include premium offerings not available during regular park hours. Some members make Moonlight Magic their "dinner" of the day.

Why This Perk Justifies Direct Purchase

For Disney-passionate families, regular Moonlight Magic attendance is one of the few Membership Extras with genuine ongoing value. A direct 150-point contract's premium versus resale is roughly $15,000-$20,000. Annual Moonlight Magic attendance plus AP discounts can recoup that premium over 10-15 years for heavy users. For occasional users, the math doesn't work as clearly.
