Hand annotating a planner calendar with gold-circled travel dates, calculator, and brass coins โ€” DVC points strategy guides.

Friday and Saturday nights cost dramatically more DVC points than weeknights. Here's how to plan around weekend premiums.

    The Weekend Premium

DVC point charts charge significantly more for Friday and Saturday nights than for Sunday through Thursday. A studio that costs 11 points/night on a weeknight commonly costs 17โ€“19 points/night on a weekend โ€” a 50โ€“75% premium for the same room. Across a 7-night stay with 2 weekend nights, you'll spend 15โ€“20% more than on a stay with 0 weekend nights.

    The Sunday-Thursday Sweet Spot

A 4-night Sunday-through-Thursday stay can cost 30โ€“40% fewer points than a 4-night Thursday-through-Monday stay at the same resort. If you can flex your schedule even slightly โ€” leave Sunday morning, return Thursday evening โ€” the savings compound across multiple trips per year.

Long Weekends Cost More Than They Should

The classic 4-night Thursday-arrival, Monday-departure trip stacks both weekend nights into a short stay. The point cost per night across that 4-night block is the highest possible. If a 4-night trip is the goal, consider Sunday-Wednesday or Monday-Thursday instead โ€” you'll save 25โ€“30% in points.

    When Weekend Nights Are Unavoidable

Marathon Weekend, Food & Wine festival weekends, runDisney events, conference attendees, and parents working M-F all have valid reasons to include weekend nights. For those trips, accept the premium but consider arriving Wednesday and leaving Sunday afternoon to cap weekend exposure at one Saturday night instead of two.

    The Split-Stay Workaround

If you must travel over a weekend, splitting the stay across two resorts can sometimes reduce weekend exposure โ€” book the cheaper resort for the weekend nights and the premium resort for weeknights. The math works whenever the cheaper resort's weekend rate is lower than the premium resort's weeknight rate.

    Why This Goes Unmentioned

Most DVC marketing emphasizes total trip cost in points, not nightly distribution. Members who pay attention to the per-night chart and intentionally book weeknight-heavy stays can take 2โ€“3 extra nights per year for the same total points as a weekend-heavy stay. Across 30 years of ownership, that's 60โ€“90 extra Disney nights.
