About this resort

Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa, sits on a 21-acre stretch of one of the four protected lagoons of Ko Olina, on the southwest coast of Oahu — about 25 minutes by car from Honolulu International Airport. The resort opened in 2011 as Disney's most ambitious off-property project: a full-service luxury Hawaiian destination resort that happens to also host a small Disney Vacation Club component (the Aulani DVC Villas occupy two of the resort's two tower buildings).

Aulani's defining feature is its commitment to authentic Hawaiian culture. The Aunty's Beach House kids' club, the daily 'Olelo (language) lessons, the KA WA'A luau, the lobby's central petroglyph wall, the carved canoe paddles in every villa, and the Hawaiian-language signage throughout the resort were all developed in close collaboration with cultural advisors. This is a genuine cultural experience layered onto a Disney resort — not just a tropical theme.

The pool complex is the central recreation hub: a meandering lazy river called Waikolohe Stream, two waterslides, a snorkeling reef called the Rainbow Reef stocked with 1,000+ fish, multiple infinity-edge whirlpools, and the Menehune Adventure Trail for kids. The lagoon in front of the resort is calm, swimmable year-round, and stocked with rentable cabanas. The DVC inventory ranges from Hotel-style Studios up to 3-bedroom Grand Villas, with view categories that span Standard, Island Garden, Partial Ocean, Ocean, and Poolside.

Anyone wanting a real Hawaiian vacation with Disney touches — multi-generational families, honeymooners, and DVC owners willing to spend 70–100 points per night for a 5–7 night Pacific getaway. Not a substitute for Walt Disney World — Aulani is a beach resort first.

Getting around

Aulani is a destination resort — there are no Disney parks nearby. Most guests rent a car or use Lyft/Uber. Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, and the iconic windward beaches of Lanikai and Kailua are all within 30–90 minutes by car. The resort has a private shuttle to nearby Ko Olina shopping centers and golf courses.

Dining

'AMA'AMA serves contemporary Hawaiian cuisine in a beachfront setting and hosts a popular Mickey-meets-his-friends character breakfast. Makahiki is a buffet with character dining at breakfast. Off the Hook is a quiet poolside lounge with sunset views. The Mākeke marketplace handles quick-service breakfast, lunch, and Starbucks coffee.
