The Polynesian is DVC's tropical flagship — monorail access to Magic Kingdom in 5 minutes, beachfront views of fireworks, and Trader Sam's Grog Grotto. The DVC inventory includes Deluxe Studios and the iconic over-water Bungalows. The recent Island Tower addition (2024) added duo studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms — significantly expanding what was a studios-and-bungalows-only DVC offering.
Standard Studios sleep 5 and include a queen bed, single bed, and pull-down bed (or sleeper sofa depending on building). Lake View Studios add a partial Seven Seas Lagoon view. Both run 14–22 points/night depending on season and view category. The location is the value — short walks to monorail station, beach, and pool.
Over-water Bungalows sleep 8 with a private plunge pool, kitchen, and unobstructed Magic Kingdom views. They also cost 80–160+ points per night — among the highest point rates in DVC. For most members, bungalows are a "once in a decade" splurge funded by years of banking. Rental rates for confirmed bungalow nights routinely exceed $1,800/night.
Island Tower opened in late 2024 with Tower Studios sleeping 2, Duo Studios sleeping 2, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms. The Tower brings traditional villa options (full kitchens, washer/dryer) to a resort that previously only offered studios and bungalows. Point costs at Island Tower run slightly above the original Polynesian villas.
'Ohana for breakfast and dinner, Kona Café for casual, Capt. Cook's for quick service, and Trader Sam's for cocktails. The dining scene is among DVC's best — most members come back specifically for 'Ohana's bread service and Trader Sam's mug experience. Walk-up bar service in the lobby is excellent.
Pros: best location in DVC for Magic Kingdom access, beachfront fireworks viewing, monorail to Epcot, vibrant dining, mature landscaping. Cons: highest point costs in DVC, no walking path to Magic Kingdom (you must take monorail or boat), studios feel small after Bay Lake Tower, bungalows are excessive for almost everyone.
Buy Polynesian if you specifically want monorail access to Magic Kingdom, you want home-resort priority on Standard Studios at 11 months, you'll use the resort 1+ times per year, and you've budgeted for the highest dues among value-tier home resorts. Skip it if you primarily want kitchen/villa amenities — Bay Lake Tower delivers similar location with better villa options.
